During recent economic crises as the Great Recession in 2007-2008 and the Sovereign Debt crisis in Europe in 2010, we have observed a disproportionate impact on sectors which mainly employ male workers, as industry and construction. At the same time, female employment seems to increase as a consequence of the fact that men in the household have lost their job and female partners increase their supply of labour working more hours or looking for a new job if not employed.
